GDA „GOLD“ 2022

RÖKONA Textilwerk GmbH & Co. KG has won the “GOLD” German Design Award 2022 with its sustainable product group “RE:SPACE” for its innovative and above all sustainable technical textiles, made in Germany. The prize, awarded now for the tenth time, is issued by the “German Design Council”.

RÖKONA applied for the German Design Award with its wide-ranging „RE:SPACE“ product concept. Along with the design and application aspects, the company also focused on the issue of sustainability in its technical textile solutions. Using SEAQUAL yarns, the single-origin knitted textiles are both fully recyclable and contribute to reducing plastic waste in the world’s seas. Based on this basic material, RÖKONA can offer textile solutions for the entire mobility sector, as well as for application fields including architecture, active wear, protective textiles and composites, all completely recyclable and honoured with the German Design Award Gold 2022. Uwe Heiner, Head of Product Development at RÖKONA, commented, “We are very proud that the German Design Council jury has recognised the immense potential of our recyclable knitted technical textiles made from recycled materials, establishing a new milestone in our industry. Combined with a wide variety of optical designs and functional possibilities, we have the opportunity together with our customers to reposition technical textiles on the market.”

With „RE:SPACE“ , RÖKONA Textilwerk offers an interesting range of high-quality technical textiles that are persuasive in functional and aesthetic terms, as well as being sustainable. Recycled plastics removed from the seas are used for the fabrics, which are available in a variety of materials and finishes. This represents a complete recycling circuit, from the raw material to the final product and its reuse, which reduces the burden on the seas and the environment and preserves resources.

The “RE:Space” concept group will be exhibited at the “Museum für Angewandte Kunst” (‘Museum of Applied Art’) in Frankfurt am Main from February 11th, 2022.
